Salvatore Salon Helps Change Lives with Hair Donations

As a woman, battling cancer is not only physically and emotionally demanding, but also takes a toll on one’s self-esteem. This is why programs like Pantene Beautiful Lengths are a wonderful way for women to re-claim their beauty by providing them with natural-looking wigs created from real hair. A remarkable endeavor then, for a local salon in Madison, New Jersey, to take a direct hand and facilitate these donations. Salvatore Minardi Salon has always had a special interest in giving back to cancer victims, since it hit home with Salvatore’s sister dying from breast cancer. The salon is an active participant with the American Cancer Society and has an annual fundraiser called “Beauty Will Cure”.salvatore salon Salvatore and Kelly[/caption] Along with these incredible initiatives, the salon embraces other local ideas toward the same goal. Salvatore was approached by Kelly Quinn, a local high school student working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, who proposed the idea of creating the ‘Wish You Were Hair Project’. This project aims to provide other salons with kits to collect hair donations for Pantene Beautiful Lengths and create change on a much larger scale. Cancer patients like Paula Lang, who have been going to Salvatore Minardi Salon for years, are drawn by the salon’s spirit and in turn embrace the support. When young Isabella Griselles came in to donate her hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths project, Salvatore saw this as an opportunity for Paula and Isabella to meet. This special meeting gave great meaning and personalization to the cause since Paula explained that when Isabella donates her hair, it goes to women like herself who, ‘don’t feel very well’, so they can have beautiful hair, too. Salvatore Minardi Salon said its motto, "create today's beauty," was given new meaning by Kelly, Isabella and Paula. “Beautiful Lengths has donated 24,000 free wigs to the American Cancer Society’s wig banks, which distribute wigs to cancer patients across the country.”
