Best Super Foods for Your Hair

dozens of cups of superfoods on top of a wooden board

So as that saying goes….”you are what you eat”, literally. The foods you consume have the power to either strengthen and enliven your beautiful mane, or cause it to become brittle, dull, and lifeless. I’m guessing you’d choose the former? Well, not only is a diet full of fresh, organic, and local fruits and vegetables CRUCIAL, you’ll also want to choose a few of these hair beautifying SUPERFOODS:

RAW ALMONDS

Loaded with zinc, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids, almonds are key to boosting hair growth and preventing loss. They help to promote healthy scalp circulation, in turn boosting shine and radiance while increasing moisture and preventing split ends.

DARK LEAFY GREENS

The darker the better….greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli for example are MAJOR sources of vitamin A and C. These will naturally increase sebum production in your scalp, promoting the innate hair conditioning mechanism. A fantastic EXTRNAL therapeutic addition to this, would be the Leyla Milani Hair ‘Rescue Me Hair Mask’ applied once per week.

LENTILS

Rich in zinc, biotin (the raging hair vitamin!), protein, and iron, it will help to strengthen your locks, speed hair growth, and prevent dry scalp. Oh and if your vegan or vegetarian (bravo), a bean protein source is a MUST!

SWEET POTATOES

BETA CAROTENE – these yummy taters are full of it. In the body it gets converted to Vitamin A, which is necessary for cell growth (this includes your hair) and a deficiency in it can actually cause dull strands and a flaky scalp – not pretty!

BRIGHT COLORED FRUIT

Just like those dark greens, the bolder the better when it comes to fruit. BERRIES are not only high in antioxidant activity, but they are very rich in vitamin C – an essential element to COLLAGEN production, which will help to maintain the actual structure of your hair (your skin will thank you as well).
